Lower Grades Positions

WHEELS is seeking highly qualified early childhood teachers to grow our Lower Grades to include PreK through Third Grade in the 2017-2018 school year. We are a dual language school and are especially seeking bilingual candidates.

The successful candidate will embody best early childhood classroom instructional practices and honor the diverse cultural backgrounds of our students and families. The candidate will be a reflective, innovative educator who is able to collaborate with colleagues to create a highly engaging curriculum for our students that is aligned with the Expeditionary Learning Core Practices and WHEELS’ vision and core values.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • NYCDOE certified or eligible for certification

  • Dual Language Spanish certification – Special Education certification a plus

  • Primary classroom experience in an urban, progressive setting and/or with a project-based curriculum

  • English and Spanish speaking skills with native speaker fluency

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designing and implementing “backwards-planned” curriculum

  • Executing high quality, productive, efficient, and rigorous lessons on a daily basis

  • Designing and implementing assessments that measure academic growth, and using regular student data from assessments to inform planning and instruction

  • Working collaboratively with students, family, teachers, and administrators to build and maintain a familial and safe school culture and community that supports achievement

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, teacher-leaders, and administrators in professional development opportunities during the summer and school year

  • Serving as an advisor to a small group of students, and acting as a liaison between the school and families

  • Maintaining a strong work ethic, a professional attitude, and a willingness to assume a variety of roles

  • Possessing a willingness to embrace certain agreed upon school-wide systems, policies and practices that we have identified as effective
