Results and Accomplishments

Middle School Results

The current 9th grade cohort entered 6th grade reading, on average, two grade levels below grade level. After three years of middle school at WHEELS, they read, on average, on grade level. In other words, students made, on average, five years of growth in three years of school.

 

High School Results

High school students at WHEELS consistently outperform other studetns in the city on all their Regents exams.

 

 

School Climate

The NYC Learning Environment Survey asks students, teachers, and parents what they think about the learning environment at their school. Schools are given a score on a 1-10 scale based on responses from the school community. On the NYC Progress Report, WHEELS' School Environment score (a section of the Report based mainly on the Learning Environment Survey results) was in the 90th percentile of elementary and middle schools and the 98th percentile of high schools citywide.

 

Family Participation

In 2009-10, 100% of students in all grades participated in Student Led Conferences (SLCs) in the fall and spring. In addition, 100% of students had one or more family members attending their SLC.

  • Fund for Teachers programs were funded for WHEELS teachers in 2008, 2009 and 2010;
  • Cahn Fellowship for Distinguished New York City Principals, Teachers College, Columbia University, awarded to Brett Kimmel in 2010.
  • WHEELS is one of the highest rated schools on the NYC Department of Education's 2008-2009 Learning Environment Surveys and ranks in the top third of all schools based on its most recent Progress Report.
